Topic: To Induce Labor
While there are many ways to induce labor, there are some more commonly employed. Let's take a look at these.
There are powerful drugs used for this purpose, one of them being Pitocin, a synthetic version of Oxytocin, which is used mainly to help develop a reliable pattern of contractions. Another commonly used drug are synthetic Prostaglandins, man-made chemicals that mimic the body's naturally produced ones that can cause the cervix to ripen and begin contractions.
Another way as old as the hills is the use of Castor oil. This causes bowel movements and can irritate the uterus, causing contractions to begin. This rather messy and uncomfortable method (especially at this point in a pregnancy) takes between only a few hours to work through the body, and then the contractions begin.
Another method that is a lot messy and thankfully drug free would be Maternity Acupressure, which uses the fingers, elbows and small devices to stimulate "acupoints" in the woman's body, which releases muscular tension and restores the flow of vital energy, allowing the body to behave in a more natural way. Labor will very soon thereafter, and it will be a far less stressful one at that!
